How do you walk, bike and roll in SW? Tell us at the Southwest in Motion Open House!
Southwest Portland’s population continues to grow, but our biking and walking facilities to help people move around the area have not. In fact, less than 50 percent of major streets in Southwest have sidewalks on either one or both sides, the lowest percentage for any area in the city. This is why PBOT staff and a team of neighborhood representatives have been meeting regularly to identify potential projects and discuss the best ways to bring walking and biking facilities to Southwest. The result is a draft project list for walking, biking, and street crossing projects, along with a list of major project priorities for future study.
Now we are ready to hear from the greater Southwest community about what they think about this initial projects and priorities. We want to hear from you, your family, and your communities about how you walk, bike and roll through your neighborhoods.
Join us on Thursday, Nov. 29th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Jackson Middle School at 10625 SW 35th Ave, Portland, OR 97219. Drop in between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m to learn more about ongoing and future projects in Southwest. Additionally, there will be brief project presentations at 5:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. for an orientation to the project and open house materials. Topics will include:
- Southwest in Motion, a short-term refinement, prioritization and implementation strategy for planned active transportation investments in Southwest Portland.
- SW Multnomah Blvd / Garden Home Road Intersection Safety Project
- Safe Routes to School projects in SW Portland
- Portland Pathways, formerly known as the Urban Trails Program
Your feedback on the project list and approach will inform the finalization of the Southwest in Motion Plan. PBOT will bring this plan to City Council in 2019.
An online feedback option will be available for those who cannot make the in-person event. More information will be posted at the project website (www.portlandoregon.gov/transportation/SWIM) and a notification will be sent when the online review period is open.
