DESCRIPTION:2nd Saturday Hike March 12\, 2022\nLeader:  Don Baack\nStart Location: Behind the Hillsdale Food Carts (Ida B. Wells HS)\nTime: 9am-12pm (arrive at 8:45am to depart at 9am)\nDistance: 4.3 miles\nElevation Change: 550 ft.\nAverage Pace:  2.5 mph\nParticipation Requirements: Fully vaccinated (including Booster)\, have masks\nBus Information: Multiple buses (39\, 44\, 45\, 54\, 56) stop at SW Sunset/SW Capitol Hwy.\nSpecial Note: There are steep stairs along this route. Walking sticks may be useful\, and it is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. \nJoin SWTrails on Saturday\, March 12\, for our 2nd Saturday Hike. \nDon is one of the original founders of SWTrails PDX and on this hike we will explore SW Trail #6 and see some recent maintenance activity carried out by our SWTrails volunteers\, then walk up a key SWTrails-built and recently-repaired connecting trail past the Stonehenge (KGON) Tower\, up Council Crest Drive past Healy Heights Park\, then up to connect with Trail #1 coming from the east. We will then follow Trail #1 southwest across Fairmount down a city-maintained stairway and another recent trail repair to Chesapeake (AKA the Goat Trail). We will keep on Trail #1 down to a future project awaiting a permit to replace a large number of rotten steps\, some of which were installed around 50 years ago. We will leave Trail #1 on 27th and proceed east on Hamilton Ct to 25th. We will then drop down to connect to 19th and proceed south on a Safe Route to School to 18th\, Sunset and back to the food carts. \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, sunglasses\, and rain gear as appropriate. Dress and prepare for the weather on hike day. Children and well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome. For health reasons\, there is no smoking on SWTrails walks and hikes. If you need to leave the hike early let a hike leader know. We try to find a restroom along the way\, but it’s not always possible to do so. \nHope to see you there!

Wells HS)\nStart Time: 9 am (arrive 10-15 min. early so we can start promptly at 9am)\nDistance: 3.2 miles\nElevation Change: 230 ft.\nAverage Pace:  2 mph\nParticipation Requirements: Fully vaccinated (including Booster)\, have masks\nBus Information:  Multiple buses serve at the SW Sunset/SW Capitol Hwy stop \nJoin Southwest Trails on Saturday\, March 19\, as we explore East Hillsdale. \nWe will be exploring the eastern section of Hillsdale by heading west on SW Capital Hwy and walk down SW Bertha Blvd to SW Capitol Hill Rd to enjoy Stephens Creek Nature Area. We’ll then head east and use a couple of rights-of-way to wander to SW Caldew\, then to SW Terwilliger\, where we head north to SW Nevada to explore Hillsdale between Terwilliger and Barbur before circling back to our starting point. \nBring water and snacks and dress in layers for our late winter weather. Kids and well-behaved pets on leash are welcome\, but no smoking for the health and consideration of others. \nHope to see you there.
