DESCRIPTION:Looking for something to do with the family outdoors on August 5th? Check out the next 1st Saturday SW Strolls that will feature a “Walk with a Doc\,” where you will gain a better understanding of the benefits of moving daily from one who knows! \nThe Stroll will begin at Little Gabriel Park on SW Canby St. at 9am (arrive prior to that to sign in) and will head down SWTrail #7 to Barbur World Foods\, and then walk down SW Capitol Hwy to Multnomah Village.  You’ll then have a short walk to return to where you started at Little Gabriel Park. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:SWTrails 2nd Saturday Hike August 12th 2023\n \nName:  Pendleton Park and 4 more Parks Loop Hike\nLeader: Dave Manville\nStart Location: 5346 SW Iowa St along the street at Pendleton Park\nStart Time:  9 am (8:45am meet time so we can start promptly at 9am)\nEnd Time:  12pm\nDistance:  5.8 miles\nElevation Change: 830 ft\nAverage Pace:  2.5 mph\nParticipation Requirements:  Fully vaccinated (including Booster)\, have masks as you prefer\nBus Information:  Call or email to arrange a carpool if you need one \nThis hike is our faster paced 2nd Saturday Hike at a 2.5 mph pace. We will begin this loop hike at Pendleton Park parking alongside Iowa Street. We’ll head over to the Idaho path to Vermont St then over to April Hill Natural Area and Park and on into Gabriel Park on some newer SWTrails built trails\, then up to the Texas Hydro Park on to Albert Kelly Park and some nice connectors on Lees St and back to Pendleton Park on the future route of the Red Electric Trail.\nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, sunglasses\, and rain gear as appropriate. Dress and prepare for the weather on hike day. Children and well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome. For health reasons\, there is no smoking on SWTrails walks and hikes. If you need to leave the hike early let a hike leader know. DESCRIPTION:Start time: 9 am (meet at 8:45 so we can start on time)\nName: Elk Point\, Old Red Electric Train on Terwilliger\nStart Location:  Ida B. Wells Parking Lot by the Hillsdale Food Carts\nNeighborhood: Hillsdale and Homestead\nDistance: 3.7 miles\nElevation Change: 51 feet \nNOTE: Our hike is on the 4th Saturday to avoid a conflict with the Multnomah Days Celebration. \nLee Buhler will lead this up-and-back walk starting at Ida B. Wells High School.  We will walk along Terwilliger to Hamilton Terrace. Along the way\, former SWTrails president Doug Rogers will talk about the West Portland Park Train that paralleled Terwilliger and the funicular that ran up and down Hamilton St. We will also learn about the natural area along the walk and a possible short trail segment at Hamilton and Terwilliger.  Bathrooms are potentially available at Hamilton St. and Terwilliger. \nAs always\, well behaved dogs on leash and children are welcome.  Note that smoking on our walks is not permitted for health reasons.  Please be prepared: dress for the weather\, bring water and a snack if you like.
