SUMMARY:2nd Saturday Hike October 9
DESCRIPTION:Join us for SW Trails October Hike\nMeet at: Robert Gray School 5505 SW 23rd Ave\, Portland\, OR 97239\nat 8:45 for 9am hike departure\n \nThe SW Trails Neighborhood Hike for October 9th is about 6 miles with 450 ft of elevation change (it is hike #23 on the Self-Led hikes list with a couple of creative extensions). Brian Brady will be leading this hike through Hillsdale\, Hayhurst\, Bridlemile\, and Multnomah neighborhoods. We will be going through newly improved trail on Lee street\, sightseeing Albert Kelly Park\, Gabriel Park\, Texas Wetlands with new exit trail and bridge and who know we may go peek at the construction in Gabriel Park and try and figure that out. On the way back we will take the SW 25th and Bertha trail also recently refurbished and return to Robert Gray \nJoining us? Great! Always be at least 10 minutes early to sign in. 2nd Saturday hikes are geared to last 2.5 hours\, keep pace at about 2.5 miles per hour\, and be a total distance of about 5-7 miles. We will meet at Robert Gray School in front on SW 23rd. Bus 54 and 56 have a stop on BH Hwy and it is 3 blocks north up to Robert Gray. If you need transportation assistance let us know. \nWe are following Oregon Health Authority guidelines.  Masks are required in most public outdoor settings regardless of vaccination status if physical distancing is not possible.  We prefer that all walkers be vaccinated. Mask-up as we gather\, and maintain 6ft social distancing from those not in your family or pod.  A Mask is not required while we walk but be prepared to use your mask when social distancing can’t be maintained while walking .  No vaccination? Then a mask is always on for our hikes and always keep a 6ft distance from other walkers. \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, sunglasses\, and rain gear.  Dress and prepare for the weather on hike day.  Well-behaved dogs are allowed but must be on leash. For health reasons\, there is no smoking on SW Trails walks and hikes. DESCRIPTION:Start Time:  9am (please arrive around 8:45 so we can start on time)\nStart Location: Parking area behind the Hillsdale Food Trucks\nName:   George Himes Park Loop\nNeighborhood: Hillsdale\nDistance: 2.3 Miles\nElevation Change: 122 ft.  \n \n Come on out and join SW Trails on Saturday October 16 at 9am\, for its monthly 3rd Saturday Walk. The 3rd Saturday Walk is designed to offer a walking opportunity that is shorter than our traditional hike and ends with a stop for coffee and socializing if you desire.   \n  We will be heading to George Himes Park to walk down its paths through the park; then we will walk up Terwilliger\, cross Capitol Hwy\, and continue on until we reach SW Cheltenham. We will then walk up Cheltenham\, which will lead us back to SW Sunset to complete the loop.  Walking poles might be needed while walking through Himes Park.  \n Because COVID infection numbers are still high\, we would like our walkers to be vaccinated\, and comply with current State recommendations to maintain a 6-foot distance between other walkers who are not part of your family or personal pod. Be prepared to mask up for our beginning group talk and if the 6-foot distance is impossible while walking.    \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, sunglasses and dress for the weather. Note that smoking on our walks is not permitted for health reasons. Kids and well-behaved pets are welcome.  \n Hope to see you there.   \n  \n
