SUMMARY:SWTrails 2nd Saturday Hike\, May 13\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:Name: Council Crest and Marquam Trail Cherry Flower Hike\nLeader: Terry Kotz\nStart Location: Parking Lot at SW Dosch and SW Patton Rd\nStart Time:  9 am (8:45am meet time so we can start promptly at 9am)\nEnd Time:  12pm\nDistance: 5.8 miles\nElevation Change: 800 ft\nAverage Pace:  2.5 mph\nParticipation Requirements:  Fully vaccinated (including Booster)\, have masks as you prefer\nBus Information:  Call or email to arrange a carpool if you need one \nThis hike is our faster paced 2nd Saturday Hike at a 2.5 mph pace and is usually 5-7 miles in length.  We have some stairs\, tight trails\, a few roots and steep spots on this hike. Our hike will head us up from the parking lot to Council Crest along the historic trolly route.  We will take in the summit views\, and wander flower-lined streets heading into Marquam Park. Now on the Sunnyside trail we will go down a ways and then head back up the Broadway trail and continue with nice sidewalks and flowery yards on our return to the Parking lot up at the top of  SW Dosch Rd.  A thanks to Terry Kotz who has designed and will lead this route. You too can be a hike designer and leader — just get in touch with us\,  share your ideas\, and together we can turn them into a great hike for all of us to enjoy. \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, sunglasses\, and rain gear as appropriate. Dress and prepare for the weather on hike day. Children and well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome. For health reasons\, there is no smoking on SWTrails walks and hikes. If you need to leave the hike early just let a hike leader know. We try to find a restroom along the way\, but it’s not always possible to do so. \nLooking forward to seeing you there with us. \nTerry Kotz\nSuzie Blount\nDave Manville

SUMMARY:SWTrails 3rd Saturday Walk\, May 20\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:SWTrails 3rd Saturday Walk\, May 20\, 9am to 11:30am\nName: Council Crest Marquam Park Loop\nLeader:  Deb Small\nStart Location: Council Crest Park\nStart Time:  9 am (arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can start promptly at 9am)\nDistance:  3.21 miles\nElevation Change:  365 ft.\nPace: 2 mph avg\nBus Information:  Since bus service has recently changed throughout the city\, please visit Trimet’s Trip Planner page to map your route to Council Crest Park:\nSpecial Notes:  The trail leading down from Council Crest can be steep at point\, and a little rough.  It would be a good idea to bring walking poles if you feel you need them for this portion of our hike. \nCome on out and join SW Trails on Saturday May 20th for our 3rd Saturday Walk. These walks are designed to offer a shorter distance of 2-4 miles and a slower pace of around 2mph walking opportunity. This month Deb Small and others will lead us on an exploration starting at Council Crest Park for a walk of 3.2 miles with an elevation change of 365 ft. From Council Crest Park we will head down Marquam Trail toward SW Fairmont Blvd and walk down one of Portland’s streets designated as shared space for cars and bicycles until we reach a stairway built by SWTrails many years ago leading up to Stonehenge Tower as we head back to where we started at Council Crest Park.  It is predicted to be a warmer day and no rain but check the weather and dress appropriately for the day. \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, and dress appropriately for the weather (raingear? sunglasses?). Note that smoking on our walks is not permitted for health reasons. Kids and well-behaved pets on leash are welcome. \nHope to see you there. \nFor more information or to volunteer to lead a future walk in your neighborhood\, contact us at walks.swtrails.org or use our web form on the Walks page HERE to get in touch.
