SUMMARY:Work Party - Apr 2024
DESCRIPTION:April 4th\, 2024: Location TBD* \n  \nPlease join SWTrails in our 10th season of working with Portland Parks to improve trails in the SW Parks. These work parties are designed to support a wide range of worker capabilities and build community in our Neighborhoods. We welcome all and all abilities. So\, give some thought to joining us or just stop by and say hi. \nIf you plan to join in the fun\, contact Dave Manville\, or text 503-753-8186 with your name\, but it is OK to just show up (we’ll take all the help we can get!). Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to the work party (8:45 am) to sign in.  We always start with a safety and tools talk to describe and demonstrate the work ahead. \nAs always\, our work is guided by the Portland Parks Lands Stewardship folks. Parks will bring all the tools\, gloves\, and materials we need\, and also\, coffee\, snacks and water. On these work parties it is not necessary to stay for the whole event and you can work at whatever level your skill and energy allows. DESCRIPTION:SWTrails/PBOT 3rd Saturday Walk\, April 20\, 2024\, 9am to 11:30am\n\n3rd Saturday Walk April 20th\, 2024\nStart time:  9am (arrive at 8:45 so we can leave by 9am)\nName: Barbur Transit Center/Maricara Natural Area Loop\nStart Location: Barbur Transit Center Near the Pedestrian Crossing Bridge\nNeighborhood: Markham Neighborhood\nDistance: 3.1 miles\nPace:  2 mph\nElevation change:  110 ft.\nBus Information:  Check TriMet Schedule for bus information\nSpecial Notes:  This hike begins the next 3-month common starting point as SWTrails continues its walking partnership with Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT).  A good portion of this hike is off road\, and trails can be rough at sections.  Bring walking sticks at your own discretion. \nOur walk will begin at the Barbur Transit Center where we’ll take the Pedestrian Bridge to the west side of Jackson Middle school and down the Little Falling Creek Trail to wend our way to the south trail loop of the Maricara Natural Area. We’ll begin to head back by taking the north loop of Maricara Natural Area to loop all the way through the park back onto Maricara where we will head back via the Pedestrian Bridge to our starting point.   As always\, check the weather for the day of the walk and wear layers for the best hiking experience. \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, and dress appropriately for the weather (raingear? sunglasses?). Note that smoking on our walks is not permitted for health reasons. Kids and well-behaved pets on leash are welcome.
