SUMMARY:Work Party - May 2024
DESCRIPTION:May 2th\, 2024: Location TBD* \n  \nPlease join SWTrails in our 10th season of working with Portland Parks to improve trails in the SW Parks. These work parties are designed to support a wide range of worker capabilities and build community in our Neighborhoods. We welcome all and all abilities. So\, give some thought to joining us or just stop by and say hi. \nIf you plan to join in the fun\, contact Dave Manville\, or text 503-753-8186 with your name\, but it is OK to just show up (we’ll take all the help we can get!). Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to the work party (8:45 am) to sign in.  We always start with a safety and tools talk to describe and demonstrate the work ahead. \nAs always\, our work is guided by the Portland Parks Lands Stewardship folks. Parks will bring all the tools\, gloves\, and materials we need\, and also\, coffee\, snacks and water. On these work parties it is not necessary to stay for the whole event and you can work at whatever level your skill and energy allows. SUMMARY:3rd Saturday Walk May 18\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Woods Park Maplewood Coffee and Tea Loop\nStart Location — Barbur Transit Center\nTime — 9am-12pm (please arrive 15 min. early so we can leave right at 9)\nDistance–3.8 Miles\nElevation Change–293 Feet\nSpecial Notes:  This would be a good walk to bring your walking sticks if you have them\, as there are a couple of rough spots  and some steps along the trail to navigate. \nCome join us as we ramble through Woods Natural Area.  We’ll also stop midway for a short refreshment at Maplewood Coffee and Tea.  Bring some cash if you’re able to contribute.  If not\, all are welcome to enjoy. \nWe will start from the Barbur Transit Center and then walk to one of the entrances to Woods Park and use SWTrails #7 to explore the west side of the park.  We’ll then enjoy a bit of the neighborhood adjacent to the park as we move onward to Maplewood Coffee and Tea.  We’ll then loop back to where we started at the Barbur Transit Center. \n As always\, check the weather for the day of the walk and wear layers for the best hiking experience.\nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, and dress appropriately for the weather (raingear? sunglasses?). Note that smoking on our walks is not permitted for health reasons. Kids and well-behaved pets on leash are welcome. Restrooms are at times hard to come by but we will try and find one along the way. \nHope to see you there. \n
