SUMMARY:Work Party - June 2024
DESCRIPTION:June 6th\, 2024: Location TBD* \n  \nPlease join SWTrails in our 10th season of working with Portland Parks to improve trails in the SW Parks. These work parties are designed to support a wide range of worker capabilities and build community in our Neighborhoods. We welcome all and all abilities. So\, give some thought to joining us or just stop by and say hi. \nIf you plan to join in the fun\, contact Dave Manville\, or text 503-753-8186 with your name\, but it is OK to just show up (we’ll take all the help we can get!). Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to the work party (8:45 am) to sign in.  We always start with a safety and tools talk to describe and demonstrate the work ahead. \nAs always\, our work is guided by the Portland Parks Lands Stewardship folks. Parks will bring all the tools\, gloves\, and materials we need\, and also\, coffee\, snacks and water. On these work parties it is not necessary to stay for the whole event and you can work at whatever level your skill and energy allows. It is just great to meet the neighbors and get in a little trail work exercise. \nThanks for helping us… help the trails\, \nSWTrails \n  \n*More details will be provided as the event date approaches.

SUMMARY:SWTrails 2nd Saturday Hike June 8\, 9am to Noon
DESCRIPTION:SWTrails 2nd Saturday Hike\, June 8th\, 9am to noon – Council Crest and wander the SW hills\nMeet at the parking lot corner of Dosh Rd and Patton Rd at 8:45AM\n \nName: Council Crest and SW Hills Wander\nLeader: Terry Kotz\nStart Location: Parking lot at the corner of Dosh Rd and Patton Rd\nStart Time:  9 am (arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can start promptly at 9am)\nDistance: 5.5 miles\nElevation Change: 1\,200 ft.\nPace:  2.5 mph avg \nBus Information:  There is no bus service to this location on Saturday. Let us know if you need assistance getting to the hike start location. \nJoin SWTrails on Saturday June 8th as Terry Kotz leads us on a vigorous hike (lots of elevation change) in the SW Hills including summiting Council Crest.  We will start from a parking lot where we have permission to use at the corner of Dosh and Patton Rd and head up the trails to Council Crest then down the Marquam trail to Broadway and over to the neighborhood above the Vista tunnel. Along the way there will be beautiful homes and spring flowers in additions to some historic sites and trees. At Prospect  Dr. we will head back up mostly on Montgomery Dr to the parking lot. Join us for this beautiful hike and remember this is our faster paced 2.5 mph average hike with usually more than 6-mile distance. \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, and dress appropriately for the weather (raingear? sunglasses? many layers?). Note that smoking on our walks is not permitted for health reasons. Kids and well-behaved pets on leash are welcome. We always try and find a restroom along the way on these hikes\, but sometimes it is several miles to find one so prepare accordingly. \nWe look forward to you hiking with us this Saturday. \nFor more information or to volunteer to lead a future walk in your neighborhood\, contact us at walks.swtrails.org or use our web form on the Walks page HERE to get in touch.
