DESCRIPTION:SWTrails 2nd Saturday Hike\, Oct 12th\, 9am to Noon \nMeet at Griswold Stadium upper parking at Lewis and Clark College\n \n Name: Dunthorpe neighborhood and Tryon State Park Loop\nLeader: Sue and Ben Donora\nStart Location: Griswold Stadium upper parking at Lewis and Clark College\nStart Time:  9 am (arrive 10-15 minutes early to sign in so we can start promptly at 9am)\nDistance: 6 miles\nElevation Change:  400 ft.\nPace:  2.5 mph avg\, our faster paced hike \nBus Information:  Bus 39 stops at Lewis and Clark College \nCome out and join SW Trails on Saturday Oct 12th as we walk the Dunthorpe neighborhood streets and then head into the trails in Tryon Creek State Park. We should see some wonderful homes and yards and fall colors along the way. 2nd Saturday hikes are longer and faster-paced with an average walk speed of 2.5 mph and a distance of 5-plus miles. This month Sue and Ben Donora will lead us as we begin at Lewis & Clark College going south along the western side of Dunthorpe then crossing Terwilliger into the southeastern corner of Tryon Creek State Park.  With little or no rain in any Portland area forecast\, the Tryon Trail will be dry\, however the trail though Tryon Creek will be about 1.5 miles\, half of which is well used but remains rugged so appropriate footwear will be needed.  There will be no bathroom stops for 4.5 miles until we get to the Tryon Nature Center where we will take a short break.  There is no shorter get back route so be prepared for the first 4 miles to be downhill (-400′ elevation) and the final 1.5 from the lowest point on the Red Bridge Trail in Tryon Creek will be uphill (+400′ elevation) \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, and dress appropriately for the weather (raingear? sunglasses? extra clothing layers?). Note that smoking on our walks is not permitted for health reasons. DESCRIPTION:  \nName:  Hideaway Park Loop \nLeader: Deb Small\nStart Location: North End of Garden Home Park (parking at SW 82nd and 83rd Ave) – meet halfway between the two parking locations \nStart Time: 9 am (arrive 10-15 min. early so we can start promptly at 9am)\nDistance: 3.5 miles\nElevation Gain: 124 ft.\nAverage Pace:  2 mph \nWe will be exploring the Garden Home neighborhood on this walk.  We will head north and walk along the Portland Golf Course then head east to walk through the Garden Home Community Center grounds on our way to view the beaver dam in Hideaway Park.  We will then begin the return loop by walking to Moonshadow Park as we head back to Garden Home Park \nBring water and snacks and dress appropriately for the weather.
