SUMMARY:2nd Saturday Hike - August 8th
DESCRIPTION:Name: 2nd Saturday Hike – Aug 8th – Gabriel Park Westward Wander \nLeader: Dave Manville \nStart Location: We will meet and park on the East side of Gabriel Park on SW 37th Ave across from the address 6930 also at the SW Texas junction\, meet on SWTrail 3 in the park.  \nStart Time:  9 am (arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can start promptly at 9am) \nDistance: 5.5 miles\nElevation Change:  550 ft.\nPace:  2.5 mph avg (our faster paced hike) \nBus Service: give a call if you need transportation \nHi hikers. Our regular 2nd Saturday hike for Saturday Aug 8th will be a route that takes us on a wander through Gabriel Park and then off to the West to see April Hill Nature Area\, Hide Away Park\, and Pendleton Park and back. It is going to be a hot day so prepare accordingly; Pendleton Pk and April Hill Park should have restrooms. \nSWTrails still needs hike leaders\, hike ideas\, and a Hike Coordinator so let us know if you have a favorite hike we could do\, or if you have the volunteer spirit and would like to organize these hikes. It is a fun and rewarding adventure. \nJoin us! and remember this is our longer and faster paced 2.5 mph average speed hike with usually more than 6-mile distance and some moderate elevation change. \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, and dress appropriately for the weather (raingear? gloves? sunglasses? sunscreen? many layers?). Note that smoking on our hikes and walks is not permitted for health reasons. Kids are welcome and well-behaved pets on leash are welcome also. DESCRIPTION:Name: Wells HS Himes Park Loop 2\nLeader: Deb Small\nStart Location:  IB Wells HS Parking Lot Near Food Carts\nStart Time: 9 am (arrive 10-15 min. early so we can start promptly at 9am)\nDistance:  2.7 miles\nElevation Change:  567 ft.\nAverage Pace:  2 mph\nBus Information:  Due to schedule changes\, check Tri Met for bus information\nSpecial Notes: One or two short increased slope on the trail.  Bring sticks as needed\n \nCome join us on our annual “3rd Saturday Walk on the 4th Saturday” as we have a conflict with Multnomah Days each year. \nWe’ll be starting at IB Wells HS parking lot near the food court and then walking up to Dewitt Park before heading to Himes Park to enjoy a bit of shade and forest before heading back to where we began. \nSpecial Special Note:  The walk is on the shorter side so that any who want to can still visit SW Green Dumpster Day before it closes. \nSpecial Special Special Note:   Next month’s walk will be incorporated into our Grand Opening Ceremonies for the Hi-LO trail.  Mark your calendars and come join in the festivities.  Find out more HERE.  Hope to see you all to help celebrate this major accomplishment. \nBring a snack\, water\, good footwear\, and dress appropriately for the weather (raingear? sunglasses?).
