Join us as we explore some of the newer walking options in some of the southwest neighborhoods, AND have an opportunity to chat and chew! We will begin at Ida B. Wells HS and head towards the new Red Electric Bridge and continue down SW Bertha to walk on a portion of the Red Electric Trail as we head to the edge of Gabriel Park. We’ll then head to the Texas Wetland area and stop at Trudi Raz’s house – that’s Raz as in the Raz-Baack Crossing in the Stephen’s Creek Natural Area – for refreshments (nibbles and coffee? We’ll see!). We’ll then finish the last mile by walking through Stephens Creek Nature area on our way back to the high school.
Most of our walk will be on surface streets, with steps leading down to and up from the Raz-Baack Crossing. There is an alternative path that will avoid the steps going down to the Crossing if you prefer. This would be the only area that one might enjoy having walking sticks.
Bring water and snacks, wear good walking shoes, and dress appropriately for our spring weather…sunglasses, sunscreen, rain gear? Kids and well-behaved pets on leash are welcome, but no smoking for the health and consideration of others. We try and find a restroom on our walking route but many times nothing is available so prepare accordingly. You are welcome to join us for just a portion of the hike but let a hike leader or sweep person know when you are leaving the hike.
Hope to see you there.
