S.W.I.M. & More

SWIM & MORE is a committee of SWTrails created to provide advocacy for the active transportation needs of SW Portland.

The Southwest in Motion Plan (SWIM) was a joint community/Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) effort to make walking and biking safer in our area. A group of 15 neighbors representing neighborhood as well as business, community, and religious organizations worked together for several years to arrive at a short-term, to-do list of projects to improve walking and biking conditions on our streets. The Portland City Council adopted the plan in 2019.

PBOT has built a number of SWIM projects, but obviously a lot has changed over the past five years. SWTrails thought it might be a good time to revisit our priorities and re-energize the plan.

The SWIM & More committee will:
–Review progress on completed SWIM projects
–Review progress on SWIM projects underway
–Propose projects to be considered for future funding
–Advocate for increased funding for future SWIM projects

It would help us—and PBOT—to know what you think. So SWIM&More has put together an interactive map of SWIM projects and we are asking you to let us know which ones are most important to you.

The survey is open until June 16th, 2025.

We will also do another survey in the near future asking about projects which have come up since 2019, when SWIM was passed, and are also important—the Red Electric Trail and a sidewalk on Shattuck come to mind.
