Hike #5: Hideaway to Pendleton Park

The fifth hike in our Self-Led hiking series is nearly 8 miles long, but mostly flat. The gates to access Montclair Elementary School are now open.  Read on for more details:

Summary:
This rather long walk is not suitable for strollers with a couple of close to the road sections  and one muddy spot.  The walk will take you through three parks and several out of the way trails.  Along the way, you will wander on streets and sidewalks within Maplewood,  Raleigh Hills, West Slope and Hayhurst neighborhoods. The route can be joined at any parking place along the way for a loop journey.

Step-by-step Description:
Starting from the west end of Hideaway Park, head N on SW Oleson to SW Vermont; turn left and walk through the north end of Montclair Elementary’s field area with a zig onto SW Vermont St, turning right on SW Nicol Rd. Turn left onto SW Homewood St., right onto SW Woodside, left on SW 91^st, and right on SW Jamieson until you reach the parking lot area for Faber Swim School and other shops. Cut diagonally through the parking area until you get to Beaverton-Hillsdale (BH) Hwy where you turn right (east); cross BH Hwy at SW White Pine and head north; turn left at SW Parkview which becomes SW Brentwood. Turn left at SW 78^th until you reach West Slope Library. Go on the walking path that curves around the Raleigh Swim Center and Raleigh Park Elementary. Turn right on SW Ridgewood; left on SW Gable Park; right on SW 70^th; left on SW Raleighwood Ln; right on SW 68^th; right on SW Raleighwood Way; right on SW Scholls Ferry (you’re in the bike lane for 1 block) until you reach the parking lot where there’s a Wells Fargo Bank. Go through the parking lot towards BH Hwy; turn left (east); turn right on SW 62^nd; left on SW Boundary (part of the old historic Red Electric rail line) which becomes SW Martha after you cross Shattuck Rd. Turn right on SW 54^th; right on SW Cameron and then a quick left (jog) to continue on SW 54^th to reach Pendleton Park. Walk through the park and turn right on SW Iowa; left on SW 55^th. Cross SW Idaho and find the walking path just to the left of SW 55^th where you will find a stream crossing trail that can be a bit muddy; head south to SW Vermont and turn right. Turn left on SW 60^th. Look for the walking path on the right just past SW Nevada Ct; go right to reach SW Nevada Ct continued; left on SW 63^rd; right on SW Miles Ct; left on SW Hickman Ln. Look for a walking path on the left to return to Hideaway Park to complete the loop.
